PIKE CO., Ky. (WYMT) - The man accused of killing Pikeville Police Officer Scotty Hamilton appeared in court Thursday afternoon.
John Russell Hall was transported from the Carter County Detention Center to appear before Judge Eddie Coleman for a status hearing.
Prosecution for the Commonwealth, Rick Bartley, told Judge Coleman that efforts to disclose all evidence were being made. Bartley said he expects to be ready for trial within the next six to eight weeks.
Three thousand pages of evidence have already been submitted. That evidence, along with what is yet to come, will have to be looked over by the defense in the case. The defense will then go over that evidence with Hall.
Another hearing has been set for October 18th.
Officer Scotty Hamilton was shot and killed on March 13th while responding to a call in the Hurricane community of Pike County.
Two days later police arrested Hall, charging him with murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
