Local woman named "Kentucky Best Bagger " to compete for national title in CA

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - A woman in Floyd County will be competing in a national competition.

It's called the National Grocers Association Best Bagger Championship.

The first Best Bagger contest was held in 1987 in Dallas, Texas.

Patty Woofter works at Super Dollar in Prestonsburg.

To win the competition, Woofter will be competing in speed of bagging, proper bag-building technique, weight distribution, as well as style, attitude, and appearance.

Right now, she holds the title as the Best Bagger in Kentucky.

"Hopefully this is going to help people in our community be a little more aware that it's actually a serious thing. It's a lot of fun and I've won a trip to San Diego for it so yeah, it's real," laughed Woofter.

Woofter can scan 38 items into 3 bags in under one minute.

At the end of this month, she will be going to California to compete nationally.

There is a grand prize of $10,000.
