Local students perform production of a Jesse Stuart book

KNOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - An education has not always been easy to obtain, but it has always been important. This is a message that Kentucky native Jesse Stuart shares in his book "The Thread That Runs So True."

"I am all behind the idea of education can be transformative in a person's life," says June Buchanan School teacher Natalie Holt.

Now students at June Buchanan are portraying his story of overcoming challenges in hopes to teach others the significance of education.

"Whenever they are exposed to a story like this, they get to see that they have not always been given this opportunity to get an education," said Holt, who also directed the play.

While students today hopefully never experience similar struggles that young kids had to face many years ago, it is important to remember how far we have come.

"Jesse Stuart's story just illustrates the point perfectly, that education has such a huge impact on students in regions like this," explained Holt.

The last production of this show will be on Saturday at 6 p.m.
