BREATHITT COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - One local school district is looking for bus drivers.
At the start of the school year, Breathitt County Schools are experiencing a bus driver shortage.
They currently have 32 bus drivers but are searching for at least four more.
Steve Banks, transportation director, says they are not alone.
"Everybody is affected by this throughout the state. It's not just here. It's not just in Louisville or Lexington it's all over the state of Kentucky and everybody is in dire need of bus drivers. A lot of people are using teachers," said Banks. "I'm not really sure why there is a shortage of bus drivers. You know people are all the time looking for jobs and it's a good opportunity to be with your kids and be off in the summertime with your kids."
Scottie Spicer, a former bus driver for 17 years, says bus drivers make impacts on kids.
"The bus drivers are the first ones they see in the morning and last ones they see at night," said Spicer. "You know you can make an impact on them. You can be nice to them and they will see that and you'll be a role model towards them."
If you are interested in a bus driver position you can go to the Breathitt County School’s website to fill out an application or you can call the bus garage at 606-666-2339.
