Laurel County Sheriff John Root awarded 2019 'Sheriff of the Year'

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - The Kentucky Sheriff's Association awarded Laurel County Sheriff John Root with the title of 2019 'Sheriff of the Year'.

Sheriff Root was elected in 2010 and took office in January 2011.

Sheriff Root has more than 30 years of service to the state of Kentucky, serving most of his time in Laurel County.

Sheriff Root was also reelected to the Kentucky Sheriff's Association board of directors for the fifth time.
