Kentucky band and fans enjoying Kansas City before the big game

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - As the Cats took the practice floor and podium earlier on Thursday, their number one cheerleaders, the band, was right next door inside the college basketball experience enjoying their day off after flying in on Wednesday.

They are college students enjoying their time as their school's basketball team makes a run for an NCAA Championship.

"We went to the SEC tournament and now we're here for the Sweet 16 and we're excited to support the team,” said Kentucky Junior Jordan Green.

The kids said Thursday’s experience was perfect to get some rest and relaxation before the big game Friday night.

"We had our day off...we knew we had our day off so we thought it would be a fun thing to do to start the day so,” said Kentucky Junior John Schulz.

The College Basketball Experience is all about college basketball as the band members hooped on a makeshift court.

"Just to learn more about college basketball. I am a huge fan and to do that is amazing,” said Kentucky Freshman Nathan Ellis.

While the College Basketball Experience is only half of the fun, Ellis was also excited and looking forward to the Kansas City Barbeque.

"I was really excited...mostly about the barbeque but it's close and I think a lot of Kentucky fans will get in,” said Ellis.

Those Kentucky fans continue to make their way to Kansas City, where the Cats will take on the Houston Cougars.

Tipoff is scheduled for 9:59 p.m. on TBS Friday night.
