Update: Body found in Knox County identified

On June 22 at 11:32 A.M., Kentucky State Police Post 10 received a call from Knox County 911 requesting KSP response after a utility worker found a man dead.

The body, identified as 42-year-old Robert L. Saunders was found in a ditch at the junction of KY 3439 and Stephen Trace Road.

On June 23 at approximately 8:00 A.M. an autopsy was performed at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort. The medical examiner ruled the death as an apparent drowning.

No foul play is suspected and toxicology results are pending.


Kentucky State Police are investigating a body found in Barbourville.

The body was found Friday morning along Stephen Trace Road.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office was the first to respond to the scene.

Officials do not know the identity of the body or the cause of death at this time.

We do not know if foul play is involved. The body was sent to Frankfort for an autopsy, the Knox County coroner tells WYMT.
