HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - A nationally recognized community health initiative celebrated 25 years Thursday.
A ceremony was held in Hazard to mark the anniversary for Kentucky Homeplace.
In 1994, the state legislature initially funded $2 million to establish the project.
The ultimate goal was to address health issues in rural parts of Kentucky.
Now, 22 community health workers provide services to people in 20 Eastern Kentucky counties. Since 2001, Kentucky Homeplace provided more than 4.9 million services to 161,968 clients.
