KY-197 in Pike County has reopened following a rockfall Monday afternoon.

Original Story

A rockfall Monday afternoon has closed KY-197, also known as Elkhorn Creek, in Pike County.

Kentucky Transporation Cabinet District 12's Shelby Maintenance Crew is at the rockfall and moving material as quickly as possible, the Transporation Cabinet said in a Facebook post.

The rockfall is between mile points 8 and 9 at Ashcamp.

Both lanes are blocked.

The Transporation Cabinet said the stability of the hillside is not known at this time.

The location is on the Dorton side of the intersection with KY-195.

Officials said drivers cannot drive from Dorton and get to KY-195, which is the road that goes to Hellier, Lookout, Rockhouse and Wolfpit.

Officials said drivers can access KY-195 from the Elkhorn City side of KY-197.

The Transporation Cabinet said preliminary estimates are that the slide could be cleared sometime this evening if the hillside is stable by then.
