PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Saturday morning in Pikeville, directors with Jenny Wiley Theatre held a meeting to announce the 2019 season.
This year, the theatre hired Robin Irwin as the new Producing Artistic Director.
She says they are excited to get this year started.
Board member Beverly Jo Osborne says theatre is not all about acting there is a technical side as well.
"There are also opportunities to design costumes, to sew, build sets, the lighting, and the technicals like the soundboard. There's just so much involved," explained Osborne.
School matinees will be provided to children who typically do not have the opportunity to see a show.
In 1997, Osborne's daughter fell in love with theatre at Jenny Wiley.
Her daughter recently finished a show in Sacramento, California.
Osborne says the theatre is a hidden jewel in South East Kentucky.
"Theatre enriches a community. Jenny Wiley could help attract industries and new jobs to the Pikeville area," said Osborne. "Those business owners usually like to see their children active in after-school activities and theatre could be that creative outlet," she continued.
During Saturday's meeting, an open forum allowed parents and kids to ask questions about anything from Footlights Academy to upcoming shows.
After the meeting, there was also a free audition workshop.
When show schedules are posted, we will update this story.
