JACKSON, Ky. (WYMT) - The Jackson ARH Specialty Clinic opened to the public on Thursday.
The clinic is located directly in front of the Kentucky River Medical Center in Breathitt County.
Officials say the clinic offers a wide range of specialty services like cardiology, oncology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, nephrology, podiatry, and urology.
To celebrate the collaboration between Appalachian Regional Healthcare and Kentucky River Medical Center, officials gathered at Kelsey's on Main the same evening for a wine reception.
Health officials say working together in this capacity benefits not only patients but each company as well.
"I think for some specialties there are some hospitals that are difficult to attract and we can share those," Hazard ARH Community CEO Dan Stone said. "It will keep people from having to travel."
"By sharing that expertise and specialty it makes both successful and provides a much greater expansion of those services to the population," Kentucky River Medical Center CEO Derek Cimala said.
They say they expect 6 or 7 specialty doctors to work in Jackson. Both say they hope to increase this number as the clinic continues to grow.
