WYMT's Steve Hensley sat down with House Minority Leader and gubernatorial candidate Rocky Adkins for this week's Issues and Answers.

In November, Adkins announced his plans to run for Governor.

He joins a long list of Democrats who have hopes of unseating Republican Governor Matt Bevin, who has announced he plans to run but has yet to file.

Adkins is from Elliott County. He worked in the coal industry, as a teacher, and has spent many years in the Kentucky house.

"One of the things that spurred me to get into the race is my love for Eastern Kentucky and all of Kentucky," said Adkins.

Adkins says his ability to reach across the aisle, something he has done often in his time in the house, is something he that would help him in the governor's office if elected.

"So I have seen it from every angle you can see and I think I bring the experience that is needed," Adkins said. "Folks that serve in the Kentucky house that are Republicans will tell you that I have been someone who is fair, who is seeking to find compromise."

Adkins supports medical marijuana, leans more towards conventional right-leaning Pro-life stance, and agrees with primary challenger Andy Beshear that everyone running for governor should release their tax returns.

"Releasing my tax returns is no issue and I would encourage everyone in this race to do so, on both sides," Adkins said.
