Update: Laurel Co. parents to face grand jury after baby found with infected cigarette burns

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Updated July 11
The case against the parents of a toddler found with infected cigarette burns is set to go before a Laurel County grand jury.

Police arrested Thomas Tallon and Jessica Sams last month after the wounds were found on their 13-month-old.

The child was taken to the hospital.

Tallon and Sams were in court Tuesday. The grand jury will hear their case August 17.

An investigation led to the arrest of two parents in Laurel County Friday evening.

Deputies said they received a complaint about possible child abuse happening at an apartment complex south of London.

Deputies found a 13-month-old child with infected cigarette burns on her backside. She taken to St. Joseph Hospital London and later taken to UK Medical Center in Lexington for treatment.

Two people, identified as the child’s biological parents, were arrested. Thomas Lee Tallon of Corbin and Jessica Mae Sams of Corbin both face criminal abuse charges. They were both taken to the Laurel County Detention Center.

Jessica Sams also faces a promoting contraband charge after workers in the jail allegedly found drugs on her.
