CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Firearm deer season opens in almost every county across West Virginia on Monday. The season ends Dec. 1.
On Sunday, hunters flood sporting goods stores preparing for their time in the woods. Store managers tell WSAZ it is very busy before this hunting season begins and it happens every year.
Garry Workman said getting rid of human scent is the most important part of his preparation. “When we go up there, we spray ourselves with stuff to keep the scent down,” Workman said.
Other hunters said checking gear and brushing up on hunting regulations are also very important.
“I’m looking forward to it, been waiting all year,” Workman said.
For the 2018 hunting season, hunting on Sunday is now legal on public land across West Virginia.
Also, the black bear archery and crossbow seasons will no longer be split. The season runs Sept. 29 to Dec. 13, concurrent with firearm deer season.
Firearm season opens on November 26 in Ohio.
In Kentucky, firearm season started on November 10. The season closes November 25.
