SLADE, Ky. (WYMT/WKYT) - Powell County Search and Rescue members say a hiker had to be airlifted Saturday afternoon from the Natural Bridge.

The National Guard airlifted the hiker out.

Our sister station WKYT reports, the woman was seizing and a paramedic with Red Star Gorge Rescue said she needed treatment as soon as possible.

"So he made the decision to get to the helicopter to come in. So we called the national guard ASAP," said Lisa Johnson with Powell County Search and Rescue.

The Wolfe County Search and Rescue were called to assist the National Guard since they have been training with them for the past year.

Johnson says previously they have had to carry people out, "it can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours. It depends on the terrain."

Powell County Search and Rescue members say they talked to the family of the hiker who was airlifted out and the hiker was released from the hospital after a short stay.

Crews from Wolfe, Powell, Star and the National Guard all worked together to get the woman out safely.

Saturday night, another call came in for a possible lost hiker near the Hoods Branch Trail in the park. Crews were able to find that hiker and they made it out safely.
