Update: Police identify man hit and killed on Highway 15

Hazard Police Chief Minor Allen confirmed one man was hit by a couple of cars on South Highway 15 near Tim Short Chevrolet in Perry County just before midnight Saturday.

Allen said they believe the man that was killed was jumping in front of cars. He also said the man jumped in front of a moving ambulance.

Police later identified the victim as Nicholas Whitley, 21, of Hazard. They said he was hit two times by two separate vehicles. He was taken to Appalachian Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hazard Police are investigating.

The Hazard Fire Department reopened Highway 15 following a collision around midnight Saturday night/Sunday morning. There is still no word on what caused the collision. We will continue to update as we learn more.

Highway 15 is shut down in Perry County.

Police and Fire Department have been called to the scene but can not comment on how long the road will be shut down.
