CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - A Clay County grand jury indicted a woman with murder Thursday.

Kentucky State Police arrested Amber Bowling Wednesday, Dec. 12 in connection to a newborn baby found dead in a trash bag.

"What is more helpless or defenseless in human form than a newborn baby," said Gary Gregory, the 41st Circuit's Commonwealth's Attorney. "The truth is I don't know if we can ever answer that question, I really don't because unfortunately, we can't step into the minds of anybody else, we can only deal with the consequences of that behavior."

Police said Bowling told them she gave birth to the infant on Sunday, Dec. 9. She then allegedly put the crying baby in the trash bag and threw it over the upstairs banister of an apartment complex. The baby was found Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Bowling faces a murder charge. She will appear back in court on January 7.
