JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Governor Matt Bevin announced on Wednesday during a special meeting at the Country Music Highway Museum in Paintsville that the city and county will receive funding for area pavement improvements.

The city of Paintsville will receive $197,788 and Johnson County will receive $378,041.

“I would like to express my sincerest appreciation to Governor Bevin for the discretionary funding allocated to the city of Paintsville,” said Paintsville Mayor Bill Mike Runyon. “This funding will provide much-needed street repairs that will not only revitalize the look of our city, but will enhance public safety and possibly expand economic development.”

Johnson County Judge-Executive Mark McKenzie identified these roads as being among the most critical in the city and county.

“We appreciate Governor Bevin and his staff for providing additional funds to assist with road improvements in Johnson County,” said Judge-Executive McKenzie. “These funds will help ensure quality and safe roads for the citizens of our community.”

“Improving infrastructure remains a top priority in expanding our opportunities here in the mountains,” said Sen. Brandon Smith. “Thanks to Governor Bevin for helping secure these allocations.”

Due to the amount of rain we have received this year many roads have been damaged due to the weather.

“I’m pleased to see the Governor make roads in both the city and county a priority for resurfacing,” said Rep. Bobby McCool. “It’s so important to have a Governor that recognizes how important roads and bridges are to our communities.”
