Republican nominee Glenn Jacobs has won the Knox County Mayoral election.

A WVLT News crew reported Jacobs arrived at the Crown Plaza around 7:30 p.m., which served as the Republican headquarters for election night.

With 100 percent of the precincts reporting by 10 p.m., the Republican nominee received 51,804 votes to his Democratic opponent Linda Haney's 26,224.

Jacobs wrestled professionally for years under the name "Kane". At one point, he wrestled in a red mask and usually played a villain character. This is his first time being elected to public office.

This is the second former professional wrestler to hold public office. Jesse Ventura serves as Governor of Minnesota from 1999 to 2003, after first serving as mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

Jacobs applauded Haney for running a campaign for county mayor that's hard to win as a Democrat. After his victory was announced, however, he also accused Democrats of being socialists.

"The Republican Party must remain a bulwark against European democratic socialism, which is unfortunately what the Democratic Party has become. In order to do that, we have to grow our party and we have to grow it among young people and among minorities. We have to become more inclusive. But what I mean by that, is we do not abandon our ideas. We need to stand even more firm, " the new mayor said.

The county released votes on its website and on a backup document.
