(WYMT) - Temperatures have been decreasing throughout the day with highs occurring at midnight this morning. With temperatures now in the 30s, we have been seeing a few snowflakes and that wintry mix which we have discussed in the previous few days.
Temperatures will continue to drop throughout the evening hours. A Freeze Warning has been issued for most of the WYMT viewing area until Tuesday morning. Lows tonight are expected to drop down into the upper 20s and lower 30s. It will be a cold start for your Tuesday morning, so keep that in mind as you head out the door.
Looking for a change in the forecast? You'll like some of the days this week. I say some because we still will be below average when it comes to high temperatures for three out of the four days.
Highs will climb into the upper 50s by Tuesday with partly cloudy skies. If you are wanting warmer weather, you'll have to wait until Wednesday. Wednesday feature partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low-mid 70s. As temperatures warm up, another frontal boundary will work across the region. That cold front will bring rain chances Wednesday night and into your early morning hours Thursday.
Just as we begin to warm up, we have to cool down quickly. Highs on Thursday will drop down into the 50s thanks to the cold front. Thursday will be a lot like the previous days this weekend with highs occurring at midnight. By the afternoon hours, it will feel like the 40s. It will be mostly sunny but the cold temperatures will not be the ideal start to Hillbilly Days in Pikeville.
Conditions will improve Friday with highs rebounding into the upper 50s and lower 60s. Partly cloudy skies will be the main story for now on Friday. This will be a better day for Hillbilly Days plans.
As of now, the weekend forecast looks okay. Saturday will feature mostly sunny skies and a few clouds by the afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the mid-60s with dry conditions. A few rain chances will work back into the forecast for Sunday. As of now, a 20% chance of rain looks likely with highs still in the mid-60s.
Keep it tuned to WYMT for an updated forecast. We will monitor the trends for the rest of the week. See you this evening.
