GRETHEL, Ky. (WYMT) - Students in Floyd County were lifted up Tuesday, in celebration of their high achievements.
John M. Stumbo students who scored distinguished on the state test, or benchmarked on the PSAT, were recognized in front of their peers and given the opportunity to ride in a hot-air balloon.
Principal Donna Robinson said the school often incorporates different fun ideas to celebrate its students. She said this helps to keep students engaged in learning.
"Every year, we do something a little bit different. Sometimes it's a 'Distinguished Dinner.' Other times, we've had inflatables- things of that nature," Robinson said. "We let the kids have some choice, usually. But, when we have something unique like this, it's a great opportunity to just get everybody excited about school. Not just the tests, but school in general."
Robinson credited the idea to RE/MAX Principal Broker Jeremy Johnson. She said Johnson and his wife are always supportive of the school and its students.
