Firefighter remembered 13 years after being killed in line of duty

(WYMT) - 13 years ago on Tuesday, Lexington Firefighter Brenda Cowan was killed in the line of duty.

On February 13, 2004, she was shot while trying to help a shooting victim.

Cowan was the first African-American woman to work for the Lexington Fire Department.

A 12-year veteran of the department, she had just been promoted to lieutenant when she died.
