Finding beauty beyond the buds: 21-year-old flower shop owner uses her shop to help the community

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Hana's Garden opened back in August in Floyd County, the shop's owner is 21-year-old Hana Sword.

The shop offers a variety of options including silk flowers, fresh flowers, wreaths, blankets, and wind chimes.

Sword says she had a special influence in opening the shop.

"I loved the joy of flowers and what they give to each other," said Sword. "All of my life I followed in my grandmother's flower shop. I had loved the idea of helping families in their time of need."

She said the store is more than just flowers.

"One of the best things I learned is help people no matter what," said Sword. "If someone comes in and they need something if it is in my power that I can help them then help them."

That is why she has a sympathy room where items like casket sprays for families are for rent. Allowing families in a tight financial situation to still honor their loved ones.

"We have them set up where you can come in and any of these you can pick out and rent," said Sword. "I know when a loved one is so special you want to be able to pick them out. You want to make sure it would be something they would have liked."

With every flower that blooms, Hana sees something a little deeper. She finds beauty beyond the buds.

"A flower represents 'I thought of you.' It represents love. It represents sympathy."

Hana's Garden also services Pike, Johnson, Magoffin, Knott and Perry counties as well.

The shop is located at 9524 KY Rt. 122 McDowell, Ky 41645 and the phone number is 606-949-1435.
