Competency hearing to be held in Martin County shooting case

MARTIN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Update 11/7:
There will be a competency hearing for Elwood Six.

The competency hearing is scheduled for November 26. A judge will decide whether he is able to stand trial.

Currently, there is not a trial date. That hearing will be held in Johnson County.

Update 5/22:

Wednesday we learned of a trial delay in Martin County shooting case.

The trial for Elwood Six expected to begin next month. Six faces a first-degree manslaughter charge.

He is scheduled to appear back in court July 18.

Elwood Six will appear back in court on April 18th.

Six pleaded not guilty on Friday.

A grand jury handed down a superseding indictment against him earlier this year.

They upgraded his charges from second-degree manslaughter to first degree.

Investigators working the case say Six killed Rodney Stepp in 2017.
