Eastern Kentucky man climbing iTunes Top 100
The Eastern Kentucky music scene is flooded with talents like Loretta Lynn and Chris Stapleton, just to name a few.
One Perry County man is quickly bursting onto the scene as he climbs an Apple iTunes chart.
Eric Combs goes by the name Pistol, one he earned on the hardwood in High School.
Eric isn’t going to be a country star, his path is very different than most of the acts out of Eastern Kentucky, he is a rap artist.
"A lot of people around here won’t listen to hip-hop but when there's a local boy, they'll give it that chance," said Combs.
Combs got his first rap album at the age of 12, he liked it for its raw attitude and uncensored lyrics, something he appreciates to this day.
"I hope they do get the feel of hip-hop and everything, the actual genera is important to me,” said Combs.
Pistol as his EP is also titled currently sits at number 92 on the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart.
"Then it was like 5 minutes later it was at 100 and then a little later at 92 and that was more than I had ever thought," Combs said.
Quickly he is finding his dreams are fading into reality.
"When I got the message that we were in the top 100 and all that I was at Ponderosa waiting tables," said Combs.
And adding a new addition to the stout Eastern Kentucky music line up.
"It’s almost like I grew up a rock fan in a jazz town if that makes any sense," said Combs.
