HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - We'll start the day dry, but the rain chances return by late morning and into the afternoon hours.
Today and Tomorrow
After a somewhat cool start to the morning once again, we'll see temps slowly climb into the mid-70s by this afternoon. We'll see sun mixed with clouds for most of the day, but as the cold front begins its trek through the mountains, the chances for scattered showers will turn into chances for strong storms, especially late this afternoon and into the evening hours.
The Storm Prediction Center has most of the region under a marginal risk (1 out of 5) on the severe weather scale today. Strong wind and some hail are the main threats, along with heavy rain, which could cause some issues in itself. We'll be watching it closely.
The rain chances continue into the nighttime hours, but as the sun goes down, the storm chances will end. Lows will drop into the low 60s.
We'll see some sunshine on Thursday, but it'll be mixed with clouds and those scattered rain chances will continue as the front exits the area. The cooler air is really going to sweep in and temperatures will likely only top out in the mid to upper 60s. Yeah, it's going to be that much of a difference. Lows will drop into the upper 40s and low 50s under clearing skies by Friday morning.
Mostly sunny skies return Friday with highs in the comfortable range once again. Highs look to reach the mid-70s with lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Saturday we bring back a few scattered rain chances, mainly in the evening and overnight hours, with highs back in the 80s. If you have any outdoor plans this weekend Saturday looks like the best day.
It looks like another system could be moving into the mountains by Sunday and into the new work week. Highs look to rebound back into the mid-80s as well.
