BIG STONE GAP, Va. (WJHL) - Emergency officials say one person was taken to a local hospital after a train collided with a truck near Big Stone Gap.

The Big Stone Gap Fire Department says a delivery truck was struck by Norfolk Southern train Tuesday just inside the Lee County line off of U.S. Highway 23.

According to the department, the driver was extricated from the truck and taken to Holston Valley Medical Center. They had to be transported by ambulance because weather conditions prevented a medical helicopter from responding.

Several agencies responded to the incident, including Big Stone Gap Rescue, Big Stone Gap Fire Department, Jasper Fire Department, Virginia State Police, Pennington Gap Rescue, C Trans, and the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
