Dreary start to the week across the mountains

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Some of you will wake up with some snowflakes this morning and there could be a slick spot or two on the roads, so be careful.

Today and Tonight
It will be another dreary day across the mountains, with those morning snowflakes giving way to some possible drizzle as temps warm during the afternoon. There could be a very brief period of freezing drizzle, but if it happens, it shouldn't last long.

Cloudy skies will be the name of the game most of the day. There could be a few spots that a peek or two of sunshine tries to work its way through the clouds, especially in the afternoon hours. Highs only get into the mid-30s.

Tonight, clouds will continue to decrease and that will drop our lows into the mid-20s.

Tuesday and Wednesday
Thanks to some high pressure, Tuesday and Wednesday look fairly nice. It will still be chilly on Tuesday, even under mostly sunny skies, with highs only getting into the upper 30s before dropping into the upper 20s.

Wednesday, we add a few more clouds back into the mix ahead of a passing disturbance on Thursday. Sunshine is still around during the day though. Highs climb into the upper 40s before falling into the mid-30s with some overnight rain chances.

Extended Forecast
Thursday looks pretty soggy at times as that next system works into the mountains. Those rain chances will linger into early Friday before moving out. Highs Thursday and Friday will be in the mid to upper 40s and fall into the low 40s overnight.

The weekend features another complex forecast with a lot of moving parts, so I won't get into too much detail right now. The one thing that looks likely is that some of the coldest air we've seen this season looks to move in late into the weekend and carry us into the first part of next week.

Keep it locked to our social media, the WYMT Weather App, on air and right here for updates.
