WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Deputies with the Whitley County Sheriff's Department are searching for a stabbing suspect.

A woman told deputies Monday afternoon that she picked up another woman near the Kentucky Consular Center and gave her a ride to Corbin. When they neared the Corbin Bypass and Highway 26, the passenger tried to steal the driver's cellphone.

Deputies said this is when the passenger pulled out a large steak knife and tried to stab the driver in the leg. After a short struggle, the passenger stabbed the victim in the stomach and ran into the woods.

During the investigation, deputies found a steak knife with a black handle. The knife had blood on it and matched the victim's wounds.

The suspect is still on the run. She is described as a white woman in her late 30's, weighing around 120 to 130 pounds. She has red curly hair and green eyes, with a small scar under her left eye. Deputies said she was wearing a red shirt and cutoff jean shorts, and had a pink backpack.

If you have any information about the suspect, contact law enforcement.
