CORBIN, Ky. (WYMT) - Updated Wednesday, March 20th
The Fayette County coroner confirms a baby girl who was delivered after her mother was shot and killed has died.
Police say 29-year-old Geri Johnson died Sunday after being taken to Baptist Hospital in Corbin with a gunshot wound. She was shot outside her boyfriend's home on Steele Hollow Road in the Rockholds community.
The baby, who is listed as Amelia Johnson in the coroner's report, was taken to UK Hospital in Lexington in critical condition not long after delivery.
The baby died just before 7 Tuesday night with the cause of death listed as severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. This means a lack of oxygen and blood in the brain.
The coroner's report also notes the newborn's death as a homicide, but police have still not said whether Johnson's death was a murder, accident or something else.
Croley Funeral Home in Williamsburg is handling arrangements for both Geri and Amelia Johnson.
We will have more updates as we get them.

State police said they have little to go on in the death of a pregnant Whitley County woman.
29-year-old Geri Johnson died, but her baby was delivered shortly after the shooting.
At last check, the newborn is still in critical condition at UK Hospital.
"We treat all death investigations as if they are suspicious, but this one is a bit bizarre," said Trooper Lloyd Cochran.
Police said they can't give out details on what may have happened at a home on Steele Hollow Road in the Rockholds community.
"Apparently her boyfriend took her to the hospital," said Cochran. "Troopers arrived at the ER shortly after getting the phone call and learned from the ER staff that the female had passed away. And that the baby had been delivered and taken to UK Medical Center where it is still listed in critical condition today."
Police are still waiting on the final autopsy results to learn the cause of death. They said they are interviewing several people and are considering everything suspicious until proven otherwise.
