Dangerous heat today and tomorrow, relief on the way

(WYMT) - A Severe Weather Alert Day has been issued due to the Heat Advisory and Excessive Heat Warning issued for the mountains.

Friday and Saturday
A Heat Advisory for a good portion of the mountains will go into effect Friday at noon and last until 8 p.m. Saturday. Lawrence County, Ky and Wayne County, WV are under an Excessive Heat Warning as well for the same time period.

Highs for both Friday and Saturday will be in the lower 90s with heat indices at or above 100°. Limit time outdoors for both days, take plenty of breaks in the shade, drink water, and wear sunscreen. We could see a stray chance for a shower or two both days. Lows will be in the lower 70s both nights.

Extended Forecast
A cold front arrives Sunday and Monday which is good news because it will give us a break from the heat!

The best chance for showers and storms will be Monday with more scattered chances Sunday. Highs on Sunday will be in the mid-80s with highs on Monday only reaching the upper 70s to lower 80s.

After the front moves through we'll dry out and finally cool off! Highs look to be in the upper 70s for Tuesday and Wednesday. We look to remain dry as well as we head into the end of the work week.
