Crews responded to explosion at Ashland gas station

Boyd County Dispatch tells our sister station, WSAZ, that fire crews responded to an underground tank explosion at a Sunoco gas station around 9 a.m. Monday.

This gas station is located on the corner of Winchester Avenue and 22nd Street in Ashland.

An eyewitness from We Care Medical, a business across the street, said she saw an explosion with 15-foot flames. People at neighboring businesses say they heard a loud boom and felt shaking.

Ashland Police said the area was closed to traffic while fire departments were on the scene. Winchester Ave. was closed from 21st Street to 23rd Street.

Police also said no one was injured in the explosion. Firefighters are trying to find out what caused the explosion.
