A fiery crash closed the southbound lanes on Interstate 75 heading toward Rockcastle County.

The crash happened near the 64-mile marker just north of the Mt. Vernon exit.

Kentucky State Police said a commercial vehicle hauling pigs caught on fire after driving off the road. Sister station WKYT reports the driver told police a tire blew out, causing him to lose control, hit a guardrail and crash into a ditch.

The driver had minor cuts and scrapes and was taken to Mt. Vernon Hospital for treatment.

Several pigs ran loose on the interstate for a while. A few pigs died in the crash, and crews took the rest to vets in the area.

The southbound lanes were closed and it was hours before traffic reopened. One lane is open while crews clean up. You can take the Berea Exit as an alternate route.
