'Cram the Cruiser' donations help Cordia School's food pantry stay open

LOTTS CREEK, Ky. (WYMT) - Troopers with Post 13 recently set up their "Cram the Cruiser" fundraiser at Food City in Hazard.

The special part is all the food donated went to Cordia School's food pantry.

Trooper Jody Sims collected numerous bags of food, worth $10 apiece, and several monetary donations.

All the bags were filled with non-perishable items.

Sims told WYMT Post 13 felt the Lotts Creek Community was in need after their recent legal battle to keep the school open.

Alice Whitaker, the school's director, says the food pantry was nearing its last days until now.

"Bless his heart," she said. "That is when I cried when he called and told me because that was it. That was going to make the difference."

She says they feed nearly 200 people. The food given goes to meals needed for Christmas.
