Second person dies in Pike County crash; names released

A second person has died from a crash in Pike County that happened Wednesday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police said Ronald Dunn, 54, of Premium was pronounced dead at the scene.

Joseph Valentino, 27, of Pikeville, later died at the Pikeville Medical Center.

Police said the cause of the crash is currently unknown.

Kentucky State Police is conducting an investigation and reconstruction of the crash.

Update 6:30 p.m.

Officials expected the road to be back open by 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.

There is still no word on what might have caused the crash.

The victim's names have not been released.

US 23 is temporarily closed as emergency crews respond to a deadly crash Wednesday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police said two vehicles appeared to crash head-on just after 2 p.m. at the mouth of Brushy Fork of Beefhide.

The Pike County Coroner was called to the scene. Police said one person is confirmed dead and one person was airlifted to Pikeville Medical Center.

They have closed the road to make a landing strip for the helicopter. We do not know how long the road will be closed.

The cause of the crash has not been determined at this time. Police have not released the identity of the person killed in the crash.
