CORBIN, Ky. (WYMT) - Corbin Independent Schools started back in session on Monday and Corbin Elementary students had their first day in their newly renovated school.
The "traditional building" was the first school in the Corbin school system and is still the oldest today. However, renovations were done inside and out on both the gym and school building.
Corbin Elementary Principal Chris Webb says the project was several years in the making.
"I never dreamed to see this building come to this point that we're at right now," said Webb.
One of the biggest improvements was to improve safety with the addition of a walkway between the school and gym replacing an existing road which was potentially hazardous to cross.
Webb says before the school was renovated they had problems with the building, including leaks in the ceiling.
Webb added that the first day went well however they are still working out traffic flow in the mornings which he said will be worked out with time.
