LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Drivers on I-75, should be prepared to see shifts in traffic and speed limits. The I-75 widening project in Laurel County starts April 22.
The $53.5 million project will widen I-75 from four lanes to six lanes at mile points 28.9 to 33.2.
Crews will lay asphalt on the outside shoulders in both directions. Once this is done, traffic will be shifted to the two outside lanes.
Transportation officials said that two lanes of traffic will be maintained, though occasionally traffic will be reduced to one lane at night.
The speed limit will drop from 70 to 55.
This project also includes reconstructing two bridges over Little Laurel River.
Officials expect the project to be done June 30, 2021.
