Cold start to the week, sunshine returns tomorrow

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - The new work and school week will start off with a taste of winter, but conditions will improve as we get deeper into the week.

Today and Tonight
Temperatures will dip into the mid-30s early and won't rebound too much by the afternoon. We'll start the day with chances for snow and wintry mix before temperatures climb enough to change it back over to rain. The chances for rain or snow will continue for a little while into the night before clearing out. Widespread frost is likely overnight clear skies take over.

A Freeze Warning goes into effect for most of the region at 10 p.m. tonight and goes through 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Highs today will be in the upper 30s to around 40 and lows will drop into the low 30s.

After a cold start, temperatures will climb quickly under sunny skies. Most locations will get into the low 60s by afternoon. Lows will drop into the mid-40s under partly cloudy skies.

Extended Forecast
Most of the week looks pretty good, with mainly sunny skies and a scattered chance or two for some rain on Wednesday night and Saturday night. Wednesday will be the warmest day of the week, with highs in the mid-70s. The other days will be in the low to mid-60s for highs and upper 30s to mid-40s for lows.

The forecast, at this point, for Hillbilly Days in Pikeville, which starts Wednesday, looks pretty good.
