HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Christmas in a Small Town kicked off in downtown Hazard Thursday.
An ice rink, giant snow globe, Christmas lights, and much more bring joy to downtown Hazard for the annual event.
"Just seeing the kids have a good time. It's worth it. The cold is worth it," said Dasheka Wiliams, a mom attending the event.
This year, there are some new traditions including a parade of lights led by Santa.
"I've never had the opportunity to do this," said Oscar Sizemore, the man dressed as Santa.
Sizemore dresses up as Santa every year and rides around Hazard on a motorcycle to put a smile on kid's faces. This is the first time he has been asked to join a parade.
"I just got so happy that I cried," said Sizemore.
People said the event is a great way to pass time during cold weather.
"Just to get out of the house and let them have a little bit of fun," said Williams.
