Burglar uses cinderblock to break into Summit City on Main
Someone broke into Summit City on Main in Whitesburg early Thursday morning.
The owner tells WYMT someone used a cinderblock to break out a glass door.
"I was shocked," said employee Kevin Howard.
Police say Ethan Lewis broke in and stole money and alcohol. Employees did not say how much money Lewis took but that it will hurt the business.
Howard said workers noticed Lewis hanging out at the business the night before.
"He came in and he didn't buy anything and he sort of sat and watched our manager just really closely for the entirety of the night," said Howard.
Employees said Lewis cleaned out the cash register.
"That's a big blow to a place like this," said Howard.
Howard said the break-in is not only negative for the business but also for the community.
"When you do something like that, you're not gaining anything from it because you're making the place where you live worse. You're taking money out of the pockets of people who are trying to make this a better town," said Howard.
Police charged Lewis with drug possession and burglary. They arrested him early Friday morning. Lewis told police he already spent the money he stole.
