Police have identified a body found in the North Fork of the Kentucky River as Kenneth Neace, 44, of Jackson.

Neace went missing in February. His coat was found just 10 feet above the Middle Fork of the Kentucky River, along the Breathitt-Perry County line.

Kayakers who found the body Sunday are family members of Neace.

The investigation is ongoing. This will be updated.

Original Story, 7:45 a.m.

Kentucky State Police are investigating a death in Breathitt County after a body was found in the North Fork of the Kentucky River.

Officials say they were not able to tell if it was a man or woman.

Kentucky State Police say they are working a handful of missing person cases right now and they acknowledge it could be one of them.

"There are a couple of cases ongoing at post 13 with missing individuals that this could be related to," said Trooper Jody Sims.

The body was found by kayakers who were gearing up to take a Sunday stroll down the river.

"They hadn't been in the river but two minutes and they found a body," said a family member who lives along the river but did not want to give his name.

The people who found the body are family members of Kenneth Neace, who has been missing since February.

"All kinds of stuff went through my mind. I didn't really know if it was a body I had to run down there myself and find out. Right here at home too, it's crazy," said a family member.

While many questions still remain to be answered family members know this would bring a sense of closure to the family.

"It's just been rough. We would like to see this end," said one of them. "At least we will know where he is at. We can put him away."
