Update: Blackjewel benefit concert at the Mountain Arts Center postponed

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Updated Aug. 22
A Concert for Coal Country: Blackjewel Miners Benefit is postponed.

The new concert date is October 13. The time is yet to be determined.

You can still buy tickets here or you can visit the box office inside the Mountain Arts Center.

Original Story

The Mountain Arts Center (MAC) in Prestonsburg will host a benefit concert this Sunday.

It is called "A Concert for Coal Country: Blackjewel Miners Benefit."

The proceeds will go to the Blackjewel miners and their families.

The bankruptcy of Blackjewel left 1,700 miners without pay nationwide.

Now, multiple Eastern Kentucky communities are coming together to help.

The lineup includes Sean Patrick Whiting, Nicholas Jamerson, Logan Hall, Bek, and the Starlight Revue, Laid Back Country Picker, and Waylon Nelson.

Joe Campbell with the MAC told WYMT officials there just want to help.

"We thought it was time to reach out to these miners and their families. It's a tough situation nobody wants to go through, I'm sure. So we're here with music and we want to try to help with a nice concert," explained Campbell.

Tickets are $15.

Music will begin at 4:00 p.m.

We will live-stream the concert here and on our second channel, Heroes and Icons.

You can purchase your tickets here or you can visit the box office inside.
