Belfry RediFest kicks off school year

BELFRY, Ky. (WYMT) - Students in the Belfry area of Pike County were invited to Belfry High School's annual ReadiFest Friday to better prepare for the upcoming school year.

Pat May, Family Resource Youth Services Center coordinator, said the event is a way to celebrate the students and make sure they begin the school year on the right foot.

From school supplies to health screenings, resources were available for students and their parents. But, she said, it is all about making the kids comfortable and confident as they enter a new school year.

"We don't want a child ever to be embarrassed that they don't have school supplies or anything that they need," May said.

She said breakfast and lunch were also served to the kids.

She said the event, which the school has been hosting for 24 years, is a collaborative effort with the school and its community partners.

School begins for Pike County students Thursday, Aug. 8.
