Author from Leslie County publishes book of Eastern Kentucky tales
Amy Brudnicki was up late one night in 2007 when she decided to write down some of her favorite memories from her childhood growing up in the Leslie County community of Wendover.
"It was just one story after another and it just avalanched into a collection of stories," said Brudnicki.
She recently published those stories into a book titled Echoes of the Past: My Dirt Road Diary.
"I wrote this really for me so I wouldn't forget memories. But, I also wrote it so people would read it and it would prompt them to write their own stories," said Brudnicki.
The book goes in detail about memories specifically related to Eastern Kentucky.
"We were in the creeks, we were in the hills, it's just a different mindset," said Brudnicki.
Brudnicki said especially with her husband and son growing up in urban areas, she wanted to capture the essence of growing up in rural Eastern Kentucky.
And that's why I share my stories so I can show them a side of life they're not used to," said Brudnicki.
Amy Brudnicki has published other books. Echoes of the Past is her most recent publication.
She is having a free book signing, reading, and tea event at The Wendover Bed & Breakfast Retreat Center on Saturday, Sept. 21.
