FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Ashley Tackett Laferty is celebrating her win for the 95th district position.
Laferty is new to the position. Her opponent was the former 95th district representative Larry Brown.
Brown's campaign released this statement, "We appreciate all the voters in the 95th district and all the support they have shown to Larry and his family and the campaign. We would like to congratulate Ashley Tackett Laferty. She will be the next representative in the 95th district. We wish her well and we wish nothing but good things for the 95th district."
Laferty says one of her main focuses as Representative will be the pension crisis and helping local schools.
"I was raised in education. Everything I have I owe to education and coal mining," said Laferty.
She held her victory party somewhere important to her, John M. Stumbo Elementary.
"I actually graduated from John M. Stumbo Elementary," said Laferty.
She said she was born and raised in Floyd County.
"I've received nearly ninety percent of the vote in my hometown. Makes a girl proud," said Laferty.
Laferty said, in turn, she hopes she can make her town proud of her.
