Appalachia fire ruled suspicious

APPALACHIA, Va. (WJHL) - An early morning brush fire is under investigation.

Firefighters responded around 5:30 a.m. Thursday to a wildland fire off of Chestnut Street in the Ridge Avenue community.

The Appalachia Fire Department says the fire was quickly contained, but not before it had burned an area of about 50,000 square feet.

According to the department, the fire has been ruled suspicious and an investigation is ongoing.
