Update: Officials identify body found by ATV rider last week
Officials have identified the woman found shot in the Viper Community of Perry County Thursday night.
Perry County Coroner Jeff Combs tells WYMT the woman shot was 32-year-old Mary Napier of Viper.
The case is still under investigation.
Kentucky State Police say identifying Napier will hopefully help find who may have shot her.
"The investigators, detectives will try and create a timeline to find out the last moments anyone saw Ms. Napier and just try to develop and cultivate possible acquaintances and just try to determine her last moments and find out where she may have last been and who she may have been in the company of," said Jody Sims with KSP.
The location in which Napier was discovered could possibly complicate the search for a suspect.
"Being in the location that it was out in the middle of nowhere. As you put it rural mountainous terrain where these ATV ride, there's not a great potential for people to be in the area with possible witnesses," said Sims.
Anyone with information is asked to call Post 13 in Hazard at 606-435-6069.
Napier's funeral is Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home.
The Perry County coroner tells us that the body found Thursday night is not that of
, whose skull was found in the same community in 2017.
The discovery left some locals frightened.
"Anything of that nature should be a concern of all residents," said a Perry County man, who did not want to be identified.
Police want anyone with information to come forward.
"We just urge anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact Kentucky State Police," said Trooper Jody Sims.
People living in Perry County say they hope whoever the woman may be, answers will soon become available.
"That's really very sad," said the man.
