A year removed, Buckhorn has plans in place in case water problems occur again
It has now been nearly a year since Buckhorn experienced water outages that lasted weeks.
The town in the outskirts of Perry County lost their water service when pipes coming from the Hazard water plant, more than 25 miles away broke as the temperatures ebbed and flowed.
"We have that awareness based on what happened last year so we are in a little better shape there," said Mayor Tom Burns.
The loss of water stranded people without water to drink, shower in or cook with.
This year the weather has been a different story.
"I really haven't been that anxious although it has been in the back of my mind," said Burns.
Burns says the ground has not had a chance to freeze this year, not causing an issue with the pipes.
"It's important that we do what we can to help ourselves in a better way and that's something that came out of last year," said Burns.
