HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT)- The Chief Operations Officer of Kentucky's 64 Goodwill stores visited Hazard Friday morning.

She hosted their new event "Story Behind the Store." The event highlights Goodwill's mission of providing employment for disabled or disadvantaged people.

Last year Goodwill employed 2,900 people. Goodwill employees have access to resources that help them maintain employment.

"We do soft skills academies. We teach them attitudes, self-preservation: how do you present yourself in a job? How to handle conflict in the workplace, how it's important to be dependable and show up on time. And those are free workshops that we do." said Chief Operating Officer Rena Sharpe.

The company encourages the community to donate their used items to the store to help fund these resources. Goodwill repurposes more than 50 million pounds of used items annually.
