LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) - Saturday morning, Christmas came early for a group of children in Laurel County.
The annual Cumberland Valley Fraternal Order of Police Shop with a Cop was held. This is year number 23 for the program.
Members of the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department, London Police Department, and one furry friend, K-9 officer “Edge”, participated in the program at the London Walmart. Several other organizations also had volunteers at the event helping out.
It was a record year for the number of children participating, with 240 kids getting to shop.
Children get to spend $100 each, $70 on clothes and $30 on toys.
Money comes from donations from the community, local businesses, and fundraisers.
“Thanks again to our donors and volunteers, and everyone for making this such a successful and blessed event today,” said Laurel County Sheriff John Root in a news release.
